| It began 25 years ago
with the edition of the first, mythic AM Cassandre
Willi's Wine Bar poster. Every year since, Willi's has
commissioned a contemporary artist to create an image
for the ongoing limited edition Willi's Bottle Art
Collection.
Connoisseurs throughout the world wait, glass in

JACQUES DE LOUSTAL
Born in Neuilly in 1956, a just few door’s down from France’s ‘first
man’, he became involved in publishing illustrations for
Rock & Folk at the end of the 70’s while studying
architecture. Meeting Philippe Paringaux, who composed
the script, they worked on comic trip material published
in Métal Hurlant, going on to compile many albums
together such as "Barney et la note bleue", "Coeurs de
sable", "Kid Kongo"& "Le sang des voyous" .
Jacques de Loustal then worked with other writers such
as Jérôme Charyn ("Les frères Adamov", White Sonya") &
more recently with Jean-Luc Coatelem on "Jolie mer de
Chine" & "Rien de neuf à Fort Bongo", edited by
Casterman.
In a parallel with this life in comic strip or BD art he
also worked as an illustrator for various publishers &
the press, (The New Yorker, Senso, etc.), as well as in
publicity, a recent example being the much acclaimed
21st poster for Willi’s Wine Bar in Paris.
Regular exhibitions of his work are held in the Galerie
Christian Desbois in Paris, the galerie Nicole Buck in
Strasbourg, the galerie Papiers Gras in Geneva & the
galerie Zigurat in Bruxelles.
Obsessive traveller, his illustrated ‘Carnets de Voyage’
make up a collection published by the Editions du Seuil.
Jazz, love of wine, (would you believe that ?) & tennis
leave Jacques de Loustal very little time to keep up
with events in Neuilly. |
